Steel fixing is paced by the pour date. A gang that reads the bar bending schedule correctly and fixes to cover and lap requirements first time keeps the pour on programme; a gang that does not turns into a consultant inspection failure the day before concrete.
NSTC supplies steel fixers individually and as complete gangs with their own chargehand. We grade on schedule reading, tying rate and understanding of cover, laps and couplers, not on years claimed on a CV.
Rebar work runs alongside shuttering and concrete, so we commonly supply steel fixers and shuttering carpenters together as a civil package under one supervisor.
Grades and roles we supply
| Role | What the grade covers |
|---|
| Steel fixing supervisor | Runs multiple gangs, works from structural drawings and schedules, coordinates pour sequence and consultant inspection. |
| Chargehand steel fixer | Leads a gang of six to twelve, sets out the mat, controls laps and cover and checks the cage before inspection. |
| Steel fixer (skilled) | Fixes to bar bending schedule unsupervised: slabs, beams, columns, walls, rafts and pile caps. |
| Steel fixer (semi-skilled) | Works within a gang on repetitive fixing under chargehand direction, including mesh, links and secondary steel. |
| Rebar helper | Bar handling, distribution, cutting and bending support and site housekeeping around the fixing gang. |
| Coupler and post-tension support | Mechanical coupler installation and support to post-tensioning crews where the structure requires it. |
What we verify before deployment
- Bar bending schedule test, because reading the schedule correctly is the skill that separates a steel fixer from a helper who can tie.
- Practical assessment on cover, lap length, spacing and tying quality against a sample cage before roster inclusion.
- Valid UAE labour card and health card, plus a site safety card where the project requires one.
- Working at height competence for column, wall and edge fixing above the working level.
- Manual handling awareness, since rebar injuries on UAE sites come mostly from handling rather than fixing.
